Why Top Israeli Boxer Omer Landau Is Making Headlines

Boxing remains one of the most popular sports globally, with almost every country bringing their respective superstars to the table. In some countries, their boxing heroes put them on the map, like what Manny Pacquiao became for the Philippines. Today, another boxer is making headlines in the Middle East. His name is Omer Landau, a native of Israel.

Omer has fought multiple matches in his young pro boxing career, all of which he won via first-round knockouts. This fantastic win-loss record results from his hard work and dedication to becoming a world-renowned boxer someday. Omer trains with some of the best fighters in the boxing ring, like the eight-division champ Manny Pacquiao, Puerto Rican star Miguel Cotto, and undefeated boxer Floyd Mayweather.

Becoming a pro boxer was the only dream Omer became passionate about, so he started engaging in rigorous training when he stepped into his teen years. When he became older, he grabbed the chance to move to the U.S., where boxing is a bigger deal compared to the Middle East. Training at the Wild Card Boxing Club, the same club that brought Floyd Mayweather to the world, became the solid starting point of his career.

After training with the Mayweather’s at the Wild Card Boxing Gym in Los Angeles, Omer joined the Mendez Boxing Gym to train with more pro boxers. There, he was exposed to different styles, which he integrated to match his own fighting technique. Omer’s years of hard work paid off when he became the face of boxing for Israel after gaining over 400,000 followers on Instagram.

One of the earliest highlights of Omer’s boxing career was when he finished second at Europe’s Amateur Boxing Championships. This exposure made him famous within the boxing circle and opened countless opportunities in and out of boxing. At only 23, he’s slowly materializing his dreams, which he built back when he was only 12 years old.

Many athletes today use their respective sports for a cause, including Omer who uses his skills inside the boxing ring to raise awareness against racism. Today, hate and violence against people of color have become more frequent, as seen on news reports worldwide. For Omer, everybody has a voice, and it’s up to them if they’ll use that voice for a meaningful cause. In his case, throwing punches and receiving hard blows are his ways of making people listen.

Aside from fighting in the boxing ring, Omer is also heading a private hospital in Israel called Herzliya Medical Center. With over 700 workers, the hospital is one of Israel’s leading private medical facilities, providing world-class medical services to its patients. As a boxer and leader of a medical center, Omer knows the value of health, so this is the message he relays through these endeavors.

Fighting in the Olympics and representing his country is Omer’s ultimate goal in his boxing career. To reach his Olympic dream, he knows some sacrifices will be necessary, including more arduous and costly training. Omer wants to win as many matches as possible and inspire people with his discipline and hard work. He wants people to know that boxing is not the violent sport that most people think it is, but a platform to make a change.
